To the Rescue Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can find this treatment at most major beauty retailers including: Amazon, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and CVS.
  • This treatment is specifically formulated to act as a recovery shield for nails that have become thin, brittle, or peeling due to UV gel manicures or improper removal. It helps in three main ways:

Strengthening Formula: It contains a 3 Protein Complex, MSM, and Ceramides. These ingredients work together to reinforce the nail structure and provide essential lipids to the nail barrier.

Physical Protection: It has a "builder gel-inspired" viscosity, meaning the polish is thicker than average. This creates an instant physical barrier that reinforces thin nails and seals "shredded" surface layers.

Aesthetic Repair: It gives a sheer, healthy-looking tint and high shine that hides white spots and ridges while the nails heal.
  • According to our clinical testing, you can expect to see results in just 3 to 5 days.
  • Because the formula is thicker than standard nail polish, it requires a bit more time to set properly:

Drying Time: It takes approximately 10 minutes per coat to dry completely.
Pro Tip: Apply two very thin layers. If the layers are applied too thickly, the drying time will increase significantly, and the product may not set correctly

Fantastic product for damaged nails

I gave in and put gel polish on my nails for a trip but my nails were ruined after taking the gel polish off. I found to the rescue and it has made a huge difference in how my nails look. I’ve been using it since March and I love how pretty it makes my nails look and how much better they are growing out. I still have more nail growth to go till the damage is completely gone but this product covers the damage and it gives my nails a healthier look. Highly recommend. You do have to take it off weekly and redo but it’s well worth the effort.

Impressive product!

A year ago I had my first gel nail polish done at a manicure salon. Not gel nails, just gel nail polish. I took it off very very carefully as prescribed and my nails were really a mess. In addition to them already being thin and cracking as I've gotten older, the surface of them was wrecked from the gel polish. I got Essie to the Rescue and was surprised at how it completely filled the cracks and smoothed surface of my nails. I was able to put a second coat on and not have to pay attention to it for almost a week. When I removed it my nails, though still thin, were stronger and the surface issues have been smoothed out. Now a year later I continue to use Essie to the Rescue as the only nail treatment or polish that I use. I am on my third bottle. Thank you for a product that really works for me!

Worth it

I really liked this product. My nails were feeling weak and a bit damaged, and after using Essie To the Rescue, I noticed they felt stronger and looked healthier within a few uses. It goes on smoothly, dries fairly fast, and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky on the nails. I also liked that it gave my nails a clean, polished look even without color. It’s simple to use and fits easily into a routine, especially if you’re trying to recover your nails from gels or just general breakage. It’s not an overnight miracle, but with consistent use, it definitely helps improve nail strength and appearance. I’d repurchase it if my nails started feeling weak again.

Mold!! I have had this product for less than a week and used it twice..happened to be looking up reviews during my second use and saw a LOT of people mentioning they found mold in their bottle, going back to over a year ago. Held my bottle up and looked at it from below to find that mine also had black mold in it. Disgusting and disappointing considering the cost to buy the product

Loved it but mold makes me 2nd guess using it

After using gel polish and soft gel nails for a while I took a break. My nails are naturally thin and peel easy and this Eddie To The Nail Rescue worked wonders. I applied two thin coats (occasionally 3-4 thin coats for more coverage) over the span of a month changing the polish every 3-5 days. My nails are noticeably stronger, and longer than they have been in years! (Current photo is with one thin coat only). However… I am noticing some dark spot on the bottom of the bottle which is not the mixing beads. Is this mold growing in the polish? Never had this in any of the polishes I have had and concerned. None of my other Essie products, OPI, Gelish, and CND polishes (clear or colored) have ever had this. What would cause this mold? I stopped using the bottle as I am concerned of infection. Next bottle I buy I will open in the store to ensure there is no mold as others have noted they have found.

Hi thereMichy1906, it is wonderful to hear that To The Rescue UV Gel Damage Repair has been such a game-changer for your nail strength and growth! Achieving that kind of progress after years of struggling with thin, peeling nails is a huge win.Regarding the dark spots you've noticed in the bottle, we get how concerning that is, especially when it involves the health of your nails. While we cannot provide a definitive laboratory diagnosis, it is worth noting that nail polishes are "anhydrous" (meaning they contain no water), which creates an environment where mold typically cannot grow. Between that and the typical solvents that make up nail colors and treatments, we know it’s not mold. However, your decision to prioritize safety and stop using the bottle is absolutely the right call—especially if it gives you peace of mind. Disappointed finding mold in the bottle

Same as so many reviews, very disappointed after purchasing 'Essie to the rescue' just a couple days ago to help with my splitting nails, only to find mold in the bottle. At first I thought it was just the beads, but as you can see that's not the case.

Very cute and helpful product

I bought this product as a nail strengthener/base coat so I cannot speak for whether or not it helps with UV damage. I love regular nail polish and growing out my natural nails and this product helped strengthen my natural nails and its thicker formula helped with smoothing out ridges. My naturals nails are quite bumpy and rigid sadly and this product helped even and level them out real nicely. On its own with a top coat it lasted me around 4 days with minimum chipping which is decent as it kept my nails strong. I love the sheer pink tint in this strengthener as it is my favorite color and is not that subtle. I am currently using this product as a base coat and it is holding up really well. Overall 4/5 as the only issue I ran into is waiting a while to dry but using thin coats and around 10 minutes dry time between each coat makes it perfect.

Essie’s To The Rescue really does what the name says — it helps bring dry, weak nails back to life. After a few uses, I noticed my nails felt stronger and less brittle. It absorbs quickly, doesn’t feel greasy, and has a clean, pleasant scent. I like that it layers well under polish too, so it fits easily into my regular nail routine. My only small issue is that the bottle is tiny for the price, but overall it’s effective and feels like a real treat for damaged nails.

Believe the other reviews. This starts to peel within 24 hours, undoing any of the healing it’s done. And to make matters worse, it’s hard to remove, so you’re basically stuck waiting for it to peel off causing further damage along the way.

Yikes! I really loved this product because my nails are thin, bendy, and kind of sharp like baby nails lol. This dries super fast and is a lovely color. I don’t mind that it peels after a few days. But I just noticed a bunch of black mold in my bottle! I took the brush out to be sure I wasn’t just seeing the brush hair but no, big clump of black colored mold or something. And now I see this is like a whole thing and kind of common. I’ve only had this like a week! Second time using it lol! 🫠😫😭

It did definitely help. My nails are really damaged after having used gel for the last two years consistently. I bought this five days ago and opened it. I went to reapply today and noticed that my bottle has mold in it. I’m not sure if I got a defect or if that happens after opening it. I’m definitely too scared to use it again and to buy it again, but for the purpose that it had it did work, but it’s a shame that I only got to use it one time. It does work; technically.

Picked this up because the hype about the product in the beginning convinced me that this would be worth trying. I love a good ridge-filling base coat, especially when it supposedly also does some nice things to my nails. Most products won't actually do what they advertise because recovering your nail health is more about what you're eating, drinking, using cuticle oil, and being gentle on your nails rather than using them as tools. Still - my nails are especially fussy and very thin and bendy, so anything that can safely help give them some strength is good in my books. This product is really good about doing that - it doesn't make your nails harder, but it keeps them strong and bendy while also adding a bit of padding to them, just as described. It can help reduce the surface appearance of splitting and dryness, which is a perk. I find that the formula, while I love its thickness, can be hard to work with when it starts to thicken from repeated use. The directions call for thin coats, which is nearly impossible to do given that this is basically a natural nail polish version of a gel rubber base. The trick I've found that helps me apply thinner coats is by pressing the brush fan down so that it fans out across my nail before I do about two to three swipes. Try to work quickly because this product does start to dry fast - it just takes awhile to dry completely. Depending on the thickness of your coat, you may have to wait longer than 10 minutes for complete dryness. Overall, I think it accomplishes what it sets out to do. I would love to see this in other tones, like more neutrals, a pink, or even a white or a black.

Doesn't work - waste of time

I'm done doing the "gel nail polish" and just had the last of it removed two days ago. My nails are in bad shape of course. Found this Rescue UV Gel Damage Repair hoping it would help. Took forever and a day for it to dry! Did two coats which took even longer to dry. The next day, it began peeling away from my nail. Second day (today), only three of my nails has this gel damage repair polish on. Very disappointed!

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experience and I'm truly sorry to hear that our 'To The Rescue Uv Gel Damage Repair' nail treatment didn't work out for you as expected. For optimal results, we've found that applying the product in thin layers, allowing each coat to dry fully (which can take up to 10 minutes), makes a real difference. We hope this helps and we truly appreciate your feedback!

Peels off, not recommended

I put this on before I went to bed and in the morning it was already peeling off. Didn't they test the product before selling it? I usually love Essie but this has definitely shaken my faith in the company. I feel like I got ripped off.

Visibly Repaired Nails

I'll admit I was a bit skeptical of this working, but beyond pleasantly surprised when it transformed my horribly damaged nails in just 5 days. I've had dip powder on my nails for almost 3 years straight with very short breaks in between and my nails were thin, cracked/peeling, and very fragile. This polish has nearly completely repaired the damage done in those 3 years time. Will continue to use for several more months to give my nails a much needed break.

This product did not stay on any of my nails for 5 days. How do I remove what didn't chip or peel off? Nail polish remover didn't remove any of it

Always peels off so fast

Peels eight off whether worn on its own or as a base. Terrible product, doesn’t adhere to the nail week and seems to be a totally different formula from your regular nail polish. Just very underwhelming don’t buy it’s a waste.

Not a fan

I was not a fan of this product. It dried within a few minutes, the color was very sheer. The packing is cute. It was very easy to remove. I feel like it did absolutely nothing to help my nails grow.

I received this product free from Essie and Influenster in exchange for my honest review. Hey beauty lovers. Let's talk nails. You know that feeling when your nails are weak, brittle, and just won't grow? Well, I've got a game-changer for you. This nail repair polish is seriously magic in a bottle. I've been using it for a few weeks now, and wow, the difference is real. My nails are stronger, longer, and looking fabulous. It's so easy to use - just brush it on like regular polish. The best part? You'll start seeing results fast. No more hiding your hands or feeling self-conscious about your nails. Whether you're a nail art enthusiast or just want healthy-looking nails, this product is a must-try. Trust me, your future self will thank you.
