Pepto Bismol Pink or Pale Pink - the shade varies

I have bought this color twice. The first time, I found it at CVS and purchased it after reading how perfect the color was was through other internet reviews. However, the pink is the shade of Pepto Bismol! It's bright and looks awful on my nails. I thought that Essie must have changed the color for good. I really wanted a soft, light pink.
I took a chance and ordered the shade through Amazon and it was the soft pink cream polish I wanted. This color is absolutely perfect - I don't need any other pink to wear. It's beautiful and so flattering. My advice is to try to see the bottles in person. The bottles at my local CVS and Walgreens are Pepto Bismol pink, the bottles at my local Ulta are the beautiful soft pink shade.
I also noticed that while the bottles have the same name, they have different numbers on the tops. Barbie Fiji is 152, and pale pink Fiji is 348.
I'm not sure if it's an issue of color integrity, age, or that the shade was made to be brighter for a while, but not every bottle of Fiji is made equal. It's still worth the search, however, because the soft pink is to die for.

The pale pink I was waiting for all my life

This is literally my favorite white-pale pink, or strawberry ice cream pink as I call it. I do not have a bottle that is Barbie pink and I’m so glad because I LOVE the white-pinks. After many many trials of finding the perfect pale pink I’ve found it and I will be so upset if I buy another bottle and it’s not the same.

Not the same FIJI pink

I just recently bought Fiji because I was running out (at walgreens) and it it’s a pale pink not even close to the original Fiji ! The original one is the left one in the picture! PLEASE ESSIE BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL. I see that you said you have not changed the formula- but there’s a drastic difference!

It looks the same as when I first bought it sometime around 2013/2014. It looks slightly different in different lighting. I’d describe it as white with a hint of pink. It looks like a very creamy pink.

I rarely, if ever, paint my nails but I won a manicure in a raffle recently and chose this colour. It is really great and I am going to buy it in the shop.
However, I noticed a number of people have mentioned a possible change in colour - surely it would be better to address the issue, rather than repeat in your response that there has been no change. Can so many be wrong?

I just got a pedi using Figi and at first I couldn’t put my finger on it 100% but I felt like the color should be a chalky pink or more on the white end. It’s like Barbie pink now. Reading the reviews its clear I’m not the only one who thinks so. Has there been discussions like promised with the product development or whatever dept that is working on fixing this shade issue?

Based on the product photos and old reviews, I thought this would be a lovely soft, light pink. It is actually a plastic kids' toy shade of Barbie light pink. Very unsubtle, not so classy. Maybe for an 80s theme party? Or maybe I'll try to mix in some white polish to get the color from Essie's website photos.

It's infuriating to see Essie Cust Svc say over and over that there's been no formula change from the original, whiter pale pink Fiji when so many of us long-time, dedicated customers can see with our own eyes that it's vastly different. Stop gaslighting us.

Not what I expected

I thought this was going to be a perfect colour to have on my nail collection and wear it all year round.
Unfortunately I didn't quite enjoyed it.
It was not very easy to apply, and it left me with totally uneven nails, which is the type of look that I evoid at all costs.
It didn't last as much as my other Essie nail polishes.

Why change a great shade?

I have used Fiji for my spring/summer pedicures for the past 10 years, at least. The last bottle I purchased was a horrible cotton candy pink! The original was pink, yet with a creamy white tone. The new one is just as previous reviews state...way too pink! Why does Essie insist that the formula hasn’t changed? It is now a completely different color. Please bring back the original color!

One of my favorite natural pink Essie colors. I’ve purchased this for the past couple of years and it is a great color for everyday wear and special events. It’s so pretty! I have super fair skin so this pink looks great, I try to stay away from yellow neutrals and go more towards shades like this. This is a perfect light pink neutral color if that’s what you’re looking for.

This is my favorite Essie nail polish color (Fiji). It's an opaque pastel/powder pink. It takes two coats to fully cover your nails. This color looks great against tanned skin, especially during the spring/summer but I still wear it in the colder seasons as well. Essie is the only brand of nail color I use. I use Ballet Slippers for my manicures. Fiji has been my go-to spring and summer pedicure color for over ten years. Perfect strangers have stopped me and asked about the polish on my fingers and toes! Fiji WAS a beautiful, soft pale pink--the perfect pink. Now it's a cheap-looking Barbie pink. Ugghh. I've read Essie's responses to the other reviews on this site which deny a change in the formula, and I think it's just a bunch of bunk. I know a change in color when I see one. Read on. . .
I recently had a pedicure with a friend and provided my manicurist with my bottle of Fiji. My friend's manicurist used the salon's newer bottle of Fiji. BIG DIFFERENCE IN COLOR.
I searched high and low to find an older bottle of Fiji but, sadly, couldn't find one. I'm now using Romper Room (863). It's an opaque like Fiji. A pretty pale pink, but not the perfect pink of the original Fiji. Until they bring back the old formula, it will have to do.
From what I've read, it's my understanding that Fiji has been one of Essie's best sellers. Why would you mess up a good thing? I would recommend Essie to a friend but NOT the new Fiji.

Please stop saying you didn't change the formula. We are not crazy. Something is different maybe not the formula but this polish was the perfect cream white with hue of pink not yellow or beige now it is definitely pink. In fact I have always used balllet slippers and Fiji. Ballet slippers was always more pink than Fiji and now the opposite is true. Something is different please bring us the color we all loved back or make it with a different name if you have to. I don't want to go to OPI. I have stayed very loyal to my Essie because the perfect classic shades. Mademoiselle, marshmallow, garnet, sugar daddy and top two ballet slipper s and Fiji. Please give us some explanation not just we didn't change formulas. We aren't all color blind. It is way too pink and went from my favorite to a color I dislike on nails.

Formula change leads to drastic color change

I have always been a Fiji girl. I think I bought 5 bottles at a time, so it's lasted me a long time. When my fifth bottle was up, I went out to buy a new bottle of my beloved Fiji, only to then find out (upon applying it to my nails) that the color has become extremely pink. A lot more pink that it used to be.
I don't understand why Essie would change the color of a very versatile color, one that suited a variety of skin tones. Sadly, I will not be purchasing Fiji again.
If anyone is looking for colors similar to the OLD Fiji, Essie's Romper Room and Lace Me Up are really good alternatives.

Much different than the old fiji

Figi used to be my absolute favorite nail color. It was a whiteish pink and perfect for all year round. I recently started wearing it again and it is most definitely not the same as the color used to be years ago. It is very pink and not so whiteish. I am honestly not a fan anymore.

The formula for Fiji seems to have changed. It used to be a perfect whiter pink and after purchasing a bottle today it is looking much more Barbie pink. This was a classic color for myself and many of my friends. Very disappointing if the formula is changed. This color is ok but it's no Fiji.

Not sure when the color changed on this polish but it's definitely much more pink now. I have an old bottle at home that is almost empty. When I went to the store to purchase a new bottle the color looked significantly more pink. Swatched it on my nail (as I was already wearing the "old" fiji) and sure enough, it's MUCH more pink. The new formula is only slightly lighter than French Affair. Wish I could find old bottles.

This was my first full size essie's nail polish and still my favorite. It's a unique pink and although is a light color it gets opaque really easy. It's a really nice formula. Now I only buy essie cause lasts a little bit longer and the colors are amazing, so amazing that I can even skip top coat if I'm not in the mood for one more step in my manicure or if I'm in a rush and my nails still look amazing. I was also really pleased when I found out that the formula doesn't contain certain ingredients. I hope Essie continue with this great work.

Essie--Please stop denying that there has been no formula change.. It's insulting to those of us that have been loyal to Fiji for years and are unhappy with the girly pink of the new shade as it lacks all the sophistication of the original --please bring back old Fiji

Why did they change it!?

I used to buy Fiji for years, I know what it looks like, and I went to get my nails done yesterday and I look down and they're pink! Like PINK pink with NO white in it. So I ask if they changed it and the girl there tells me, that they haven't changed it, it's just that Fiji turns whiter after a while, like in a week or so. But still, she saw how sad I was, so she put on a 3rd coat of a whiter shade, and I was extremely pleased with the result: white-ish with a pink hue, just like the old Fiji. So I plan to do this from now on, even though 3 coats and a top coat will probably chip earlier than it should. I don't get why they're saying they haven't changed the formula. Maybe they've changed the ingredients? And they appear pink at first but transform later?? lol I have no idea, but it seriously can't be that so many people in here can not see color right! And there's a lot of us die-hard old Fiji fans, we know it by heart! Anyways, just wanted to say there is a solution, add a white shade coat on top or mix them in the same bottle if you're more diy!
